ABN Group Employer Statement
Our commitment
Established in Perth in 1978, ABN Group has grown from one home building company into a market-leading group with over 20 companies. Our services include new home design and construction, commercial construction, land development, mortgage broking, custom kitchen design and specialist construction services.
Our mission to ‘deliver the dream of home ownership’ is only made possible through the dedication and loyalty of our people. We remain proud of our unique culture and the open, respectful, fun environment we work within. Our culture and our people remain the number one reason our employees choose to work with us.
With a strong growth strategy powered by a significant investment in technology, ABN Group is undergoing a period of transformation, the success of which will only be made possible through the commitment and dedication of our people. Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is pivotal and central to our people strategy.
Our gender pay gap
Our gender pay gap for the 2022-23 reporting period is 20.4% (based on median total remuneration) and 17.6% (based on median base salary).
Our gender pay gap numbers are slightly above the national gap but below the construction industry and organisations of comparable size.
We acknowledge that we have a way to go in achieving gender equity and welcome the conversation the WGEA gender pay gap publication is accelerating.
We are using our results and additional internal activities to help address gaps and opportunities for growth.
Our Gender Equity Action Plan
Building a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace is a journey that we are on, and committed to. Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) strategy works alongside the THRIVE Wellbeing Framework and aligns with our ‘drive to be better’ objective.
Gender equity is a core pillar of our DEI strategy and contains actions to address the presence of ‘gender concentrations’ in our organisation. As is the case across the construction industry, senior leadership positions and specialist roles have been traditionally male-dominated, whilst junior and individual contributor roles have been more female-dominated. It is our mission to address contributing factors and provide equitable opportunities for all.
We are proud of the progress we have made to date but acknowledge there is much more to do.
Some steps we have taken so far include, but are not limited to:
- Developed our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy and THRIVE wellbeing framework
- Launched our leadership development programs
- Joined CEOs for Gender Equity and Menopause Friendly Australia for support and best practice guidance
- Implemented a paid parental leave policy with additional benefits
Key actions in our Gender equity plan
Key actions detailed in our Gender Equity Plan include, but are not limited to:
- Undertaking an internal gender pay gap assessment
- Development of a remuneration framework
- Engaging with employees to learn more about the barriers and challenges faced particularly by women and gender diverse people across the Group
- Assess and address how we attract and retain talent, focusing on better opportunities for women to join and grow their careers at ABN Group
- Review recruitment strategies
- Assess and update key benefits, including parental leave and flexible working
- Incorporate Inclusive Leader training into ongoing development offerings
- Establish working group/s focused on different aspects of diversity, equity and inclusion across the Group
- Deliver resources on mental health, family and domestic violence, menopause and other topics.
As we move forward, we are excited for the opportunities that lie ahead for our employees, the community, and the ABN Group.
