Today we were incredibly proud to attend the official opening ceremony of Brightwater’s new Piara Waters campus for people living with Huntington’s Disease.
Designed by KPA Architects and built by our wonderful team at Dale Alcock Projects, Piara Waters was completed in mid-2024. It’s a purpose-built campus with 21 bedrooms across seven homes, sensory gardens, commercial kitchens, relaxation spaces and much more.
Each home in the facility is Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) compliant and was designed in collaboration with families affected by Huntington’s Disease, allied health, advocacy and clinical organisations.
The homes feature innovative designs and assistive technologies to foster community, comfort and independence. It is genuinely a world-class campus and the first of its kind.
In the words of the Honourable Don Punch MLA, who helped open Piara Waters, “this is not just a facility but a home.”
While the unique design and disability compliance requirements posed challenges for the project, this was a real labour of love. It’s so fulfilling to see it come to fruition and to see the new residents at home in this space they get to call home.
Connecting people to purpose
One of the things that made this project so successful and meaningful for the Dale Alcock Projects team was everyone’s connection to the place’s purpose.
Getting connected to the purpose of the place brought a new level of care, attention to detail and willingness to overcoming the challenges of a project like this.
