New social housing coming soon to Byford

It was a pleasure to host the team from Stellar Living recently for a tour of the social housing development we’re constructing in Byford.

Premier Roger Cook accompanied the tour, joined by Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti MLA, Housing Minister John Carey MLA and local member for Darling Range Hugh Jones MLA.

Our project team showed our esteemed guests around the 12 unit site, which will become homes for seniors at risk of homelessness, and provided a tour of several completed homes.

They were excited to see how far the development has progressed, which is currently on track for completion in December 2024.

About the project

We commenced site works on the 12 unit development in early 2024, pouring the slabs in April and reaching roof cover in July. With the majority of the work complete, we look forward to delivering the project to Stellar Living and seeing these houses become homes in the next few months.

The Byford development was made possible by the Department of Communities’ Community Housing Grants, which awarded funding to Stellar Living for this project in mid-2023.

As the future residents will primarily be seniors, the single storey, two-bedroom units were specially designed and constructed with accessibility and ageing in mind. This ensures a high level of independence and freedom.

March 2024 | Preliminary sitework underway

October 2024 | Paving & landscaping underway

Projects like this one is something Dale Alcock Projects continues to excel at.

While the unique shaped lot would pose significant challenges for ‘normal’ residential developments, the Dale Alcock Projects team have consistently been able to utilise the space for well-considered group housing. This creates new opportunities in estates under development, enabling the effective use of ‘awkwardly’ shaped lots.

The chosen methodology is one Dale Alcock Projects continues to see success in; the prefabricated timber frames allowing for a high-quality and affordable product to be delivered in relatively short timeframes. This is ideal for grouped and social housing and effective in addressing the need for more quality housing in the state.
